Grow Your Organization and Your People

Do you want a solid organization and successful people?

Why not strive for both?

For me, the need for attention to the business culture and environment is central to success. It is the underlying premise for the organization’s growth, innovation and profit.

Why? People are always more alive, creative productive and satisfied when conditions are right. It is as simple as that.

When managers invest in creating a culture that supports individual growth, the organization will grow. The problem is not managers’ failure to understand the impact of culture, it is their failure to do anything of substance to address it.

Here is a way to address the problem and the opportunity:

  • Assume that your organization will grow in the coming 12 to 24 months ….be clear on your vision or this approach will fail
  • Assume that the employees you count on are in favor of the growth desired … not all will be, that’s OK
  • Assess your satisfaction level on the seven factors below. The question you want to consider is: In order for us to grow without delays, how well have we decided on each factor? Would all team members agree with your assessment?
    1. Goal…where are we going and why?
    2. Plan…how do we expect to get there?
    3. Accountability…how will we divide the work?
    4. Measurements…what mileposts will be passed along the way?
    5. Communication…how fully informed and accepting is everyone on points l through 4?
    6. Person/job alignment…how well have we matched task with talent
    7. Employee development…what environment have we created for employees to want to work here?

Note that these seven apply to an individual, a department, your management team and, of course, you in the role as leader.

Action idea

Combined, these seven are the foundation of a growth-oriented culture. Develop a method to bring them into your management approach. Give it a six-to-twelve month time period to develop fully.

I hope that you will use these suggestions to enhance your company.
